How annoying when the snow starts to stick to your skins!
New skins are treated to be hydrophobic. If mohair skins start to collect snow, it is always a sign that it is already worn-out. If you have block wax in your backpack, you can solve the problem for the day. If you allow the waterproofing spray to dry properly the evening before, this will prevent the skin from snow build-up for a much longer period.
Hydrophobic
In general, the impregnation keeps moisture and dirt away from the climbing skins. The use of polyfluorinated chemicals (PFC) is common practice in outdoor clothing and equipment. However, harmful fluorocarbons can accumulate in the environment and in organisms. The designation C6 includes fluorine compounds, which are considered more environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, fluorine-free impregnations are still much less abrasion-resistant. The first plant-based substances point to a promising future.
