Freeride Film Festival 2024 - THE ART OF RE:CONNECTION

Freeride Filmfestival 2024 | THE ART OF RE:CONNECTION

Laura Born |

The motto of this year's Freeride Film Festival (FFF) with its five spectacular and experimental freeride films is " THE ART OF RE:CONNECTION " and stands for reconnection on many levels. The spectrum ranges from flow experiences in nature and environmental protection to the humorous relationship between a skier and a snowboarder to the exploration of other cultures and their perspectives on the mountains. All of this is garnished with big mountain action at the highest level, individual excellence in the backcountry and the most extraordinary lines.

A brief overview of the films

SCUrrari

Freeride World Tour snowboarder Timm Schröder (aka Timmy Shredder) and ski pro Dino Flatz show with a wink why it is much more fun to be in the mountains as a pair, despite different equipment. The film makes you want to go powder skiing, have fun and be friends. A real fun movie on the Arlberg and in the Zillertal that doesn't take anything seriously - except the alpine dangers of freeriding. Plus a great hip-hop soundtrack with songs produced especially for the film by rapper "Doomaniac".

Stasi

Svea Irving's life is turbulent: she has a bachelor's degree, is a halfpipe ski pro in the World Cup and at the X-Games, and is aiming for the 2026 Olympic Games. But she also likes to hang out in the backcountry. One element connects all of these things, and that is nature. "With this film, we want to show that there is a beauty in all the chaos of the different elements of her life that meet precisely at this point of 'stasis' - that is, in this moment of absolute silence," explains director Griffin Glendinning.

The Red Face Zone

Truly mysterious things happen to the Weger brothers Matthias and Jakob. Their faces are bright red. Anger, arguments and aggression are in the air. In a panic, they discover that they suffer from "Red Face Syndrome". The only cure is riding the most brutal and narrow lines in the Dolomites. Entertaining, shocking entertainment, brilliantly presented by mastermind Marco Tribelhorn. The idea for the film actually came about in the FFF 2023 tour bus.

Sariri

What drives people to go to the mountains? Five protagonists from Switzerland, Austria, Bolivia and Peru push themselves to their limits as they ski down various 6,000-meter-high cliffs in the Andes. The mountaineers also take risks by making the first descent of the 6,074-meter-high "Chachacomani" in Bolivia. A beautiful film at a gentle pace with magnificent images, strong portraits and plenty of food for thought. Directed by Paul Schweller, who at the age of 23 has already made the award-winning film "metanoia", among other things.

Farming Turns

Chris Rubens is going from being a freeride star to becoming an organic farmer. This not only allows him to live more sustainably, but also strengthens his connection to the community and the mountains in his hometown of Revelstoke, Canada. As a new father, he is constantly optimizing his everyday life so that his son Huxley can grow up in the best possible world. The authentic narrative comes from the multi-international award-winning adventure documentary filmmaker Anthony Bonello, whose productions have more than 20 million online views on various platforms such as Netflix.
